Collegial relationships
Reporting and audit
|
Doctors registered within a general scope of practice must establish a collegial relationship with a doctor who holds registration within a vocational scope of practice in the same or related branch of medicine. They advise doctors on continuing medical education (CME), audit and peer review.
Compliance with CPD requirements is assessed by the Medical Council every year as part of each doctor’s APC application. Each year 10 percent of applicants will be audited.

You can search the register to locate a colleague registered within a vocational scope of practice in your area.
Please email recertification@mcnz.org.nz for further information about CPD. |
Alternative arrangements and exemptions |
The requirements listed above may not be appropriate for some doctors, and it is possible for some exceptions to be authorised by the Medical Council. Full details are provided in the Continuing professional development and recertification book.
Doctors in vocational training programmes are required to have their application form for their annual practising certificate signed by their supervisor of training. This will usually be a consultant, nominated by their employer, working in their department. In the case of non-clinical training this will probably be the person they report to in their day to day work. Please ask your employer for clarification if you are unsure.
