Certificate of Good Standing

The Council Registrar may issue you with a "certificate of good standing" (CGS) if you are applying for registration to work in another country. The certificate shows that there is no legal barrier to your being currently registered on disciplinary, competence, criminal or health grounds.

To apply, print the Request for certificate of good standing form (pdf) and forward with the fee of $40 to the Council office. Please allow five working days for your request to be processed. 

Note: CGS requests for UK, Irish, South Australian, South African, New Delhi, British Columbia and Australian Capital Territories (ACT) registration will also be forwarded by secure email to the appropriate registration authority.

Letter of standing

If we cannot issue a CGS because there is a current or intended investigation or proceeding before the Council or the Tribunal, a “letter of standing” will be issued, which will provide a brief summary of the situation for the information of the overseas board.

Going
overseas?

Your name will remain on the Medical Register unless:

• you ask for your registration to be cancelled, or
• you do not notify us of a reliable contact address
• we do not receive a response to mail sent to you from the Council office.

No fee is payable to retain your name on the Register if you are not practising.
