Who must be supervised |
Supervision means the monitoring of, and reporting on, the performance of a medical practitioner by a professional peer. The following doctors must be supervised:
Provisional general (excluding interns), provisional vocational and special purpose - all doctors registered within these scopes of practice must work under supervision.

Interns (new and NZREX graduates) - will have a nominated intern supervisor for the first 12 months working in New Zealand.
The Council handbook Education, training and supervision for interns (pdf)describes the Council's requirements for interns. It includes guidelines for the doctors and all individuals involved in their induction and training. |
Run Evaluations for Interns |
At the end of each run please use the Run Evaluation (interns) RP7 (pdf) to provide feedback to your employer. The information is confidential and will be used for continuous improvement.

Changing supervisor or employer? |
If you are working under supervision and you need to change your employer or supervisor, you must apply for a new APC using one of the following forms. For doctors registered within:

Progressing to general or vocational scope |
When you have completed all of the supervision requirements, use one of the following forms to apply for a general or vocational scope.
Note: If you are registered within a provisional general scope and participating in the RNZCGP advanced vocational education (AVE) programme, contact your registration administrator or email registration@mcnz.org.nz for advice. |
