Post-graduate training and/or experience


Conditions

The applicant must satisfy these criteria:

The applicant must…

English

Achieve, or be exempt from achieving, the required score in the IELTS Academic Module as defined by Council's English Language testing requirements.

Registration

Be registered in their own country, to which they will return on completion of the training.

Training

Fulfil one of the following criteria:

  • be enrolled in a formal training programme in his or her own country, or
  • have a formal post-graduate qualification which shows competence in the branch of medicine in which they will practise while in New Zealand, or
  • have worked for at least 12 months in an institution with which a New Zealand hospital or medical school has an exchange programme, and have guaranteed continuing employment and training in that institution on completion of their training.

Night cover

Employers must satisfy night cover requirements before a doctor is permitted to provide night cover.
