       Registration within a special purpose scope of practice

 

Conditions for registration

To register within a special purpose scope of practice, a doctor must work:

  • only within their registered scope of practice
  • at a location approved by Council
  • under the supervision of a registered doctor approved by Council, and
  • only for the specified duration of the teaching, training, research, emergency or locum tenens.

Important!

Registration within a special purpose scope of practice under this policy is not a pathway to registration within a general or vocational scope of practice.


Options within
special purpose scope of practice

To qualify for registration within a special purpose scope of practice, all doctors must:

  • pass (or be exempt from) the IELTS English test in accordance with Council’s English language requirements
  • hold a primary medical degree from a university medical school listed in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools, or the FAIMER Directory, and
  • satisfy all criteria for the individual special purpose you are applying for.
