Accident and medical practice
|
Accident and medical practice is the primary care of patients on an after hours or non-appointment basis where continuing medical care is not provided. The Accident and Medical Practitioners Association (AMPA) provides training in New Zealand and awards the qualification, Fellowship of the Accident and Medical Practitioners Association (FAMPA) which is the approved New Zealand qualification.
To be registered within a vocational scope of accident and medical practice in New Zealand it is expected that you would have training, qualifications and experience equivalent to or as satisfactory as a New Zealand trained specialist in accident and medical practice. Accident and Medical Training in New Zealand |

Have you had two years' postgraduate experience in a hospital? |
Two years of supervised postgraduate general medical training, including one pre-registration intern year and one year including posts in general medicine and/or surgery in full time supervised positions as approved by AMPA. |

Have you passed an approved Primary examination? |
Approved primary examinations are AMPEX and the primary examination of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine. |

Have you completed four years of training in Accident and Medical Practice? |
3,000 hours' experience is required, over four years, with a minimum of 400 hours in any one year.
A year can be any 12-month period nominated by the trainee.
General practice experience is accepted to a maximum of 500 hours.
Verifiable overseas experience to a maximum of 1,000 hours will be accepted.
At least 2,500 hours must have been worked in a community Accident and Medical facility or Hospital Emergency Department.
New Zealand experience is to be supervised per AMPA Education Committee standards. |

Do you participate in a continuing medical education programme to ensure your knowledge and skills are current? |
Participation in an approved recertification programme, such as that run by the AMPA's Professional Standards Committee. | |
