Obstetrics and gynaecology |
To be registered within a vocational scope of obstetrics and gynaecology it is expected that you would have training, qualifications and experience equivalent to or as satisfactory as a New Zealand trained obstetrician and gynaecologist registered within a vocational scope of practice. To enable you to assess this answer the following questions. |

Obstetric and Gynaecology Training in New Zealand |
|
Have you had two years experience after graduation with at least six months experience working in obstetrics and gynaecology? |
Obstetricians and gynaecologists undertake a six year training programme offered by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). To be eligible to enter the training programme participants must have had at least two years practice since graduation, including six months in obstetrics and gynaecology. |
|
Have you undergone six years of obstetrics and gynaecology vocational training? |
Obstetrics and gynaecology training in New Zealand consists of four years of supervised core training on an integrated training programme and two years on the elective programme. |
|
Have you completed specialist, fellowship requirements or exit examinations in obstetrics and gynaecology? |
Membership of the College is awarded on successful completion of four years on the integrated training programme and is a pre-requisite to entry to the elective programme. Fellowship of the College is awarded after successful completion of a further two years on the elective programme. | |
Self assessment |
If you cannot answer 'yes' to all these questions and demonstrate that your training, qualifications and experience are equivalent to or as satisfactory as that of a New Zealand trained specialist it is unlikely you will be eligible for registration within a vocational scope of practice in New Zealand.
To see if you meet the requirements for another pathway to registration, return to the registration self assessment checklist and complete the checklist answering no to the question “are you a qualified specialist or do you have a postgraduate qualification“.
If you have been able to answer yes to the above questions, please click here for the application form and for more information on the application process.
