Requirements for a vocational scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the diagnosis and treatment (operative and non-operative) of patients with diseases, injuries and defects of the mouth, jaws and associated structures.  This includes oral and maxillofacial pathology, trauma, dentoalveolar surgery, facial pain, orthognathic and relevant reconstructive surgery. Training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in New Zealand is overseen by the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS).

We do not currently have a checklist of what qualifications, training and experience is expected of applicants for this vocational scope of practice, but information on oral and maxillofacial surgery training in New Zealand can be found on the RACDS website at http://www.racds.org/.

If you believe that your qualifications, training and experience in clinical genetics are likely to be equivalent to or as satisfactory as New Zealand training, please click here for the application form and for more information on the application process.

To see if you meet the requirements for another pathway to registration, return to the registration self assessment checklist and complete the checklist answering no to the question “are you a qualified specialist or do you have a postgraduate qualification“.If you have been able to answer yes to the above questions, please click here for the application form and for more information on the application process.
