About the Medical Council of New Zealand
The Medical Council of New Zealand is a regulatory body tasked with protecting the health and safety of the New Zealand public. We ensure that health practitioners are competent and fit to practise. This is achieved by registering doctors to practise medicine in New Zealand and by regulating doctors' education, performance standards, conduct and health.
About the role and who we're looking for
We are looking for a talented individual to join our vocational registration team. We work with applicant doctors, medical colleges, recruiters and employers. This team's responsibility is to register specialists, particularly those who trained outside of New Zealand, making sure only those who meet our standards do so.
You will be a highly motivated team player who enjoys helping others and has excellent interpersonal skills. The role requires strong skills in written and oral communication, report writing, analysis, customer service, planning and organisation, and administration.
In this role, you’ll strengthen all of these skills, deepen your understanding of the health sector, and help New Zealanders have trust in the specialist medical workforce.
Your main responsibilities:
- Assessing applications for eligibility for vocational registration - handling queries from applicants, analysing risk, securing advice from medical colleges, making written recommendations in accordance with criteria and policy
- Maintaining and updating the medical register and issuing practising certificates
- Monitoring specialists, given registration, who are practising under supervision
- Giving stakeholders (such as employers, recruiters and colleges) advice about Council’s registration processes, and assisting with the development of registration policy and procedures
