Discussion paper on when Artificial Intelligence (AI) is involved in the care of patients

Alerts

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used in health care. AI offers significant advantages if it is used appropriately and with clear knowledge of what it can provide, together with its limitations.

Purpose of our discussion paper

This paper is a first step towards developing further guidance for doctors when AI is involved in the care of patients. Your feedback on the different issues we raise in this paper will help us decide what sort of guidance we should develop for doctors.

We want to encourage you to think about what good medical practice looks like when AI tools are developed or used in patient care, and to provide us with your thoughts on this. To help with that, this discussion paper raises several questions that we hope you will respond to.
