Review of our statement on Non-treating doctors performing medical assessments for third parties
The Medical Council of New Zealand (Council) is reviewing its statement on Non-treating doctors performing medical assessments for third parties, and is seeking your input.
We last reviewed this statement in December 2010. While we intend to retain the existing content, we have re-organised some sections and included more descriptive headings to help readers navigate the statement.
We have also re-written the draft statement in plain language for better readability. The draft statement:
- sets out key principles about what the assessing doctor’s role entails.
- sets out the assessing doctor’s obligations when conducting a medical assessment, and what factors they should consider.
- strengthens the patient-centred approach and places more emphasis on the importance of clear communication.
You will find the proposed draft statement Conducting medical assessments for third parties here [PDF, 56 KB].
The existing statement from December 2010 is available here.
Your input is important to us. We invite your feedback by 7 June 2021.
