Dr Bauer is required to participate in an approved recertification programme relevant to the vocational scope of Internal Medicine. Dr Bauer may work outside the stated vocational scope in hospital based practice but must do so within a collegial relationship.

Under Section 21 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003:
Effective 28 August 2018: Dr Bauer's vocational scope of practice is limited to neurology.
Effective 23 October 2018: Dr Bauer's general scope of practice is limited to neurology in any medical setting or to other areas of medicine in hospital-based practice only.
