Dr Sottas is required to participate in an approved recertification programme relevant to the vocational scope of Anaesthesia; Intensive Care Medicine. Dr Sottas may work outside the stated vocational scope in hospital based practice but must do so within a collegial relationship.

Under section 21 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003:
Effective 12 May 2016: Dr Sottas's general scope of practice is limited to anaesthesia and intensive care medicine in any medical setting or to other areas of medicine in hospital-based practice only.
