Kaiārahi – Take Hauora | Health Case Manager

Make a real impact on public safety and the medical profession

We’re looking for a thoughtful, analytical and people-focused professional to join our team as a Health Case Manager. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of health, regulation, and risk—supporting doctors to practise safely while protecting the public.

About the role

This is not your typical case management role. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring safe medical practice across New Zealand. You’ll balance risk, empathy, and sound judgement—working with sensitive information, navigating complex situations, and making decisions that matter in protecting the public.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing risk and ensuring safe practice
  • Assess and analyse health-related notifications, disclosures, and referrals.
  • Identify risks to safe practice and determine appropriate management strategies.
  • Commission and interpret specialist assessments and testing.
  • Make recommendations on practice limitations or conditions where required.
  • End-to-end case management
  • Develop and implement tailored management plans for doctors.
  • Monitor progress through reporting, testing, and regular reviews.
  • Build trusted relationships with doctors, treatment providers, employers, and legal representatives.
  • Maintain clear, accurate case histories and documentation.
  • Stakeholder engagement & communication
  • Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-quality case papers, reports, and briefings.
  • Present cases and support decision-making processes.
  • Governance and administration
  • Prepare agendas, minutes, and follow-ups for key meetings.
  • Maintain accurate data and case records.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and privacy requirements.

What makes this role interesting

  • Work on complex, meaningful cases that require both analytical thinking and emotional intelligence.
  • Operate in a high-trust environment, with teamwork and accountability.
  • Be a part of a team that values integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

About you:

  • Experience in case management, regulation, health, or a similar environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation or policy to real-world situations.
  • Strong risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence working both independently and collaboratively.
  • You bring sound judgement, strong analytical capability, and the ability to work with sensitive issues professionally.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience in the health sector or working with practitioners.
  • Experience supporting boards, committees, or statutory processes.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. health, psychology, law, social work).

What you’ll bring as a person

  • High emotional intelligence and professionalism.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • A commitment to fairness, integrity, and continuous improvement.
