New Chair and Deputy Chair appointed

The Medical Council of New Zealand is pleased to advise that at its recent meeting, Dr Kenneth Clark was elected Chair of Council. Dr Clark was appointed to Council in August 2020 and he has also served as chair of Council’s Education Committee for the last six years.  He is vocationally registered in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and, until recently, in Medical Administration. Dr Clark was Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of MidCentral DHB for 17 years and he chaired the national DHB CMO group for nine years until leaving his CMO role in 2019.  Dr Clark is also a past president of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians  and Gynaecologists.

The Council also elected Ms Ming-Chun Wu Deputy Chair. Ming-chun is a lay member of Council with extensive governance experience.

Council acknowledges the contribution of members whose terms have concluded, including former Chair Dr Rachelle Love, former Deputy Chair Simon Watt, and Council members David Ivory and Dr Charles Hornabrook. During their time on Council, members have made an important contribution to public health and safety in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Council particularly acknowledges the leadership of former Chair Dr Rachelle Love and thanks her for her service and commitment. In particular, Council recognises Rachelle’s leadership in guiding Council’s response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in State Care, and the work she has done with survivors of Lake Alice.

Council also acknowledges Simon Watt’s contribution as Deputy Chair, including his service and leadership as Chair of Council’s Audit and Risk Committee.
