MCNZ Chair - message to the profession

He karanga manaaki ki ngā rata o te motu

With the COVID-19 lockdown in effect across the country in response to community transmission, Te Kaunihera Rata o Aotearoa would like to take the opportunity to thank the medical profession for once again being at the frontline of Aotearoa's national response.

In taking care of our patients and communities, we recognise the potential health and well-being impacts on you as health professionals and on your whānau. As an essential workforce, you may face particular pressures around child care and maintaining your "work-life" bubble. Supporting each other and those around you, and taking time to tend to your own well-being, are incredibly important to continue to give your best.

To the doctors in primary care supporting COVID-19 swabbing and vaccination, to the teams caring for COVID-19 cases in hospitals, to the medical experts advising on the public health response and to all health professionals - ngā mihi nunui ki a koutou katoa. Thank you all.

Te Kaunihera Rata is working closely with the Ministry of Health and DHBs to ensure we are supporting the national response, including the pandemic registration scope, which remains in effect: https://www.mcnz.org.nz/about-us/our-covid-19-response/ .

Kia haumaru koutou, hei ora tonu tātou,

Dr Curtis Walker
Chair
Medical Council of New Zealand
