Registration pathways for physician associates (PAs)

We have two scopes of practice – the PA provisional general scope of practice and the PA General scope of practice.

When a PA first applies for registration in New Zealand, they will be registered in the PA provisional general scope.  Once they have satisfactorily completed the requirements of the PA Provisional general scope, they will be eligible to apply for registration in the PA General scope.

There are multiple pathways to registration in the PA Provisional general scope.

Each of these has specific requirements you need to meet  to be registered.
