Recertification requirements for doctors practising in the General scope of practice

If you are registered and practising in the General scope of practice only, you must meet one of the following recertification programme requirements.

Inpractice programme

Doctors registered and practising in the General scope of practice must (with some exceptions) participate in the Inpractice recertification programme administered by bpacnz. Over a 12 month period, you must complete:

  • A professional development plan
  • 20 hours of continuing medical education
  • 10 hours of peer review
  • One medical audit
  • Four meetings with your nominated collegial relationship provider

In addition to the annual requirements you must complete:

  • the Essentials Quiz in the first year of enrolment in Inpractice and then once every three years
  • feedback on your practice, both through colleague feedback and patient questionnaires (where practicable) once every three cycles
  • a regular practice review visit when scheduled

Council may require you to provide evidence of enrolment and participation in the Inpractice programme.

Doctors in PGY2

If you are in PGY2, you must establish an acceptable professional development plan (PDP) to be completed during PGY2, and you must work in Council-accredited clinical attachments. This requirement will be recorded on your practising certificate. You are not required to participate in the Inpractice programme.

Doctors participating in a vocational training programme accredited by Council

Doctors in vocational training programmes are not required to participate in the Inpractice programme.

Doctors whose scope of practice is limited to non-clinical practice

If we have approved a limitation on your scope of practice to non-clinical practice, and your non-clinical practice is considered to be ‘low risk’, you may not have to participate in the Inpractice programme. We will make that decision on the advice of one of our medical advisers. You will still have to participate in a formal collegial relationship.
