Pre-registration course requirement for physician associates
All physician associates (PAs) applying for registration in the PA provisional scope of practice (except those applying via the NZ experiential pathway) must complete a Council-approved induction programme, within the 12 months immediately prior to applying for registration.
Council-approved programme
The Council-approved programme comprises:
- Foundation Course in Cultural Competency ; and
- Foundation Course in Healthcare and Treaty of Waitangi
Evidence required
Applicants must provide a copy of their certificates confirming satisfactory completion of both courses, at the time they apply for provisional registration.
New Zealand experiential pathway
Physician associates applying for provisional registration via the New Zealand experiential pathway, only need to provide evidence that they are enrolled in both courses at the time they apply for registration. However, they will need to provide evidence that they have successfully completed both courses, at the time they apply for a change of scope to the PA General scope.
